Man Killed In Shooting With Galveston PD

A Galveston Police Officer was placed on administrative leave after he shot and killed a man during a traffic stop Monday morning.

GALVESTON, TX — A Galveston Police officer is on administrative leave after he shot and killed a man during a traffic stop Monday morning.

The shooting happened at about 3 a.m. in the 5300 block of 53rd Street, near Avenue L.

Investigators have not said why the man was pulled over, or if the victim, who was believed to be between 18 to 20-years-old, got out of his car and confronted the officer.

Police recovered a weapon from the scene, according to Galveston Police Chief Vernon Hale.

The victim was taken to UTMB in Galveston where he was pronounced dead.

His identity has not been released.

The case is under investigation by the Galveston County Sheriff's Office and the Galveston County District Attorney's Office.
