Officer Wounded In Santa Fe Shooting Is Discharged From Hospital

Retired HPD Officer John Barnes was discharged from UTMB, three weeks after being wounded in a mass shooting at Santa Fe High School.

CLEAR LAKE, TX — The Santa Fe ISD Police officer who was wounded in the horrific shooting at Santa Fe High School on May 18, left the hospital on Wednesday.

John Barnes, who was shot in the arm during the attack that left 10 people dead, was discharged from UTMB in Galveston, but will still have to undergo rehabilitation.

Barnes, who retired in January from the Houston Police Department, went lost a lot of blood during the shooting and went immediately into surgery to repair the artery in his arm and the bone in his elbow.

Barnes began working for Santa Fe ISD the day after he retired from HPD.
