ALVIN, TX — A man who allegedly tried to kidnap a 15-year-old girl as she jogged near her home has been arrested, and police are wondering if there are other victims. Steven Salazar, 22, is being held in the Brazoria County Jail on numerous charges that include attempted kidnapping and evading arrest.

Police said the victim was jogging near the intersection of County Road 392 and County Road 185 at about 9:20 p.m. on Dec. 2, when she said a young Hispanic man with a goatee, wearing a dark hoodie and gray sweat pants, pulled up in a tan Chevy Silverado pickup.

The girl said the man got out of the truck and wrapped his arms around her and tried to drag her to his truck. The victim said she began screaming for help, and the two fell to the ground while he was dragging her to this pickup.

Salazar, who was behind the wheel, saw deputies and fled the area, but was stopped by a patrol unit nearby.

Police said Salazar was initially charged with reckless driving and evading when he was arrested, and he was later released. When police questioned him later about the attempted kidnapping, he gave police inconsistent statements about the incident.

Salazar was positively identified as the attacker, and now faces attempted kidnapping. Salazar was booked into the Brazoria County Jail on Tuesday where he is being held with a $20,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing as probe Salazar's background and attempt to identify any other possible witness or potential unidentified victims.
