Austin Police Release Sixth Street Halloween Safety Plan

Several streets will be closed down to vehicular traffic.

The Austin Police Department announced a list of guidelines for Halloween safety on Wednesday to ensure that the large crowd of people celebrating on Sixth Street remain safe.

According to a press release from the APD, Sixth Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from Brazos Street to the West Frontage Road of IH-35. The cross streets between Fifth and Seventh Streets will be closed as well. Police are expecting to complete the closures by 6 p.m., and any vehicles parked after 6 p.m. on Sixth Street and at cross streets (Brazos, San Jacinto, Trinity, Neches, Red River and Sabine) will be towed, according to the release.

Depending on the amount of pedestrian and vehicular traffic, the IH-35 southbound Eighth - Third Street exit and the IH-35 northbound Sixth Street exit may be closed, along with other IH-35 exit ramps, according to the release. Police will determine what else will be closed for pedestrian safety once they examine the evening’s crowd size.
