Ayla Erdener will feature her latest series of oil paintings of individuals within the queer community who have shaped her life and art.

AUSTIN, TX — When you appreciate the art of Ayla Erdener, you can't help but notice the optimism her pieces convey through the use of vibrant and bold color. Austin's culture, diversity, and lifestyle is reflected in Erdener's work along with a heavy influence by her Turkish heritage and the beauty associated with Turkish folklore and patterns.
For Erdener, the exploration of self and the journey to find it is the drive behind many of her creations. Her latest series of oil paintings are especially personal and depict individuals throughout the queer community who have helped shape her life. The works are a celebration that reflect the support, generosity, and safety the queer community has demonstrated to her.
The Dougherty Arts Center located at 1110 Barton Springs Rd., proudly hosts Q & A: Queers of Austin for an opening reception on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Guests will enjoy light refreshments, beverages, and have the opportunity to speak with the artist and learn more about her work and inspiration.
