Austin Animal Center Schedules Pet Adoption Event

The second 'Sunrise Adoption' event is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. at 7201 Levander Loop this Saturday.

AUSTIN, TX — The Austin Animal Center will host its second "Sunrise Adoption" event this Saturday, officials announced.

The event is slated from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. at 7201 Levander Loop. Organizers noted the first such event on Sept. 12 resulted in 14 dogs finding new homes in a mere three hours.

Safety measures enacted due to COVID-19 has severely limited occupancy at shelter, officials explained, resulting in long wait times for potential adopters. As a result, appointments are needed to visit the shelter to find a new furry friend, and adoption appointments book up weeks in advance.

And yet, the Sunrise Adoption event will be a no-appointment-needed event featuring a limited number of pre-selected dogs who are ready to find their forever home, organizers wrote in an emailed advisory.

The event will take place on the Austin Animal Center front lawn so that social distancing requirements can be observed, officials said, and a face covering will be required to attend the event. The Sunrise superstar dogs will be stationed around lawn where potential adopters can line up to meet them, according to the advisory. All adoptions will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The shelter facility will not be open during this event, and adoptions will be limited to the dogs stationed on the lawn, organizers added.
