Details Announced For Austin's New Year's Eve Celebration
The family-friendly event takes place Monday, December 31 and is free and open to the public.

AUSTIN, TX -- The City of Austin announced details to its annual New Year's celebration which is scheduled to take place beginning on Monday afternoon. The FREE event kicks off at 3 PM on January 31 at Vic Mathias shores, and attendees are asked to plan accordingly in anticipation of road closures and to also be prepared to pay for parking.
"Austin's New Year is a way for the city of Austin to honor its commitment to promote and supporting our local business here in the city of Austin and our local musicians," said Kathie Tovo, Austin mayor pro tem.
Lawn chairs and blankets are encouraged and organizers announced this year's family-friendly event will feature a trackless train, crafts area, great food, plenty of live entertainment, and activities for all ages. The event is pet-friendly, however, fireworks begin at 10 PM and pets should not be brought out to this portion of the celebration.

Organizers also announced South 1st Street bridge will be closed as will Riverside Drive from Lamar to South 1st Street for the majority of the day. An east bound lane on East Cesar Chavez will also be closed.
