AUSTIN, TX — Thanksgiving is an important holiday for many reasons. It's a chance for loved ones to come together in a meaningful way and engage with one another; an opportunity to reflect with gratitude for the good things in our lives; and it's the beginning of the holiday season which inspires us to remember we all share universal feelings and struggles, and our best efforts and intentions should go toward helping and supporting one another.

It's especially important to find opportunities to lift others up during this time of year, when so many struggle to find food and/or fellowship. As has been tradition for the last 23 years, The Austin Empty Bowl Project will host its annual event to feed Austin's hungry. The Austin Empty Bowl Project is led by Austin area potters to fight hunger and is always held the Sunday before Thanksgiving. A family-friendly event, attendees have the chance to donate $20 and select from thousands of locally crafted ceramic bowls and have it filled with gourmet soup and bread, while listening to great live music and enjoying the great selection of ceramic bowls from talented local potters.

Donations go toward Meals for Kids, a program of Meals on Wheels Central Texas, and Kids Cafe, a program of the Central Texas Food Bank. Participants may take home their bowls to be reminded of the empty bowls of others in our community. At this year's event, participants will also be able to stop by and grab a bowl of "Mrs. Claus's Homemade Chicken Soup" from the Meals on Wheels Central Texas Kitchen.
