Austin-Based Texas Appleseed Nonprofit Slated To Get NFL Grant

The local nonprofit is expected to use its windfall in furtherance of work mitigating issues disproportionately affecting Hispanics, Blacks.

AUSTIN, TX — The NFL on Thursday is scheduled to announce the awarding of more than $70 million in grants to social justice organizations — including Austin-based Texas Appleseed, officials confirmed.

The planned distribution of awards is part of the NFL's Inspire Change initiative launched in 2018, according to an advisory. Texas Appleseed is expected to use its funding in furthering its work in three areas disproportionately affecting low-income Black and Hispanics residents: Driver’s license suspensions, criminal record expungement and debt collection.

The local organization is one of just 13 nonprofits slated to receive funding given their shared mission of working to create positive change in communities across the U.S. while ensuring access to opportunity in key areas of police-community relations; criminal justice reform; education; and economic advancement
