  • Job Postings measured in this report refers to the employers who are actively advertising online, it is not a representation of Job Openings, which measures all positions that are open (not filled) on the last business day of the month.

  • There were about 87,800 Available Job Postings during the December 2021 monthly reporting period, a decrease of 3,000 postings compared to the previous month. There were 26,800 New (first-time) Job Postings, a decrease of 5,500 postings when compared to the previous month. New (first-time) Job Postings in December 2021 represented 31 percent of all Available Job Postings but were at 36 percent in November 2021. Employers have posted a smaller percentage of New (first-time) Job Postings in December 2021.
  • 14 percent or 12,600 of all Available Job Postings during the December 2021 reporting period fell under the Management Occupations while 12,100 Available Job Postings fell under Computer and Mathematical Occupations, showing continued strong demand for experienced or senior talent and tech talent in our region.
  • There are currently about 3,000 postings indicating vaccination requirements or mentions, an increase of 1,100 more postings when compared to the previous month. This could also be attributed to the federal vaccine mandate.
  • The number of job postings that offered "signing bonuses" decreased by 400 postings to the current 6,400 when compared to November 2021. However, it still represents 7 percent of all postings, a similar share when compared to the previous month. The current top occupations that are offering signing bonuses are Registered Nurses, Software Developers and Software Quality Assurance Analysts and Testers, Heavy and Tractor-Trailer Truck Drivers, Sales Representatives, and Retail Sales Associates. Two years ago in December 2019, only 2 percent of job postings offered "signing bonuses".
  • 37 percent or 32,400 of Available Job Postings pay an annual median wage between $30,000 to $65,000. Of these, 59 percent or 19,200 will require a high school diploma as the entry-level education, and 15 percent or 4,800 will require a bachelor's degree.
  • There are about 860 internship positions posted. Companies such as Advanced Micro Devices, Cirrus Logic, Intel, Q2 Software, Silicon Laboratories, and Tokyo Electron have posted multiple internship positions.
  • According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the Austin MSA reported an unemployment rate of 3.2% or 42,400 unemployed in November 2021.
  • More jobs ahead. In December 2021, the Austin metro region saw a total of about 3,495 jobs announced through new relocation or expansion plans, approximately 700 more job announcements than the previous month. 4M Analytics (Herzliya, Israel), AI Fleet (New York, NY), Cart.com (Houston, TX), and Nebraska Furniture Mart (Omaha, NE) are the companies that have announced new location plans, creating about 1,075 new jobs in Austin. The expansion list representing 2,420 jobs, includes Amazon, American Canning, BGE, Crawford Electric Company, FireCloud, KingsIsle Entertainment, Redbird Flight Simulations, Restore Hyper Wellness, TabbedOut (Union POS), Visual Concepts, and Volcon.
