  • Burning Glass made improvements to more efficiently identify expired job postings and this resulted in fewer "available jobs" before stabilizing at a new level as of January 23, 2022. Available job postings historically did not change. The time series experienced a one-time downward shift. This is a change due to a better methodology.
  • Job Postings measured in this report refers to the employers who are actively advertising online, it is not a representation of Job Openings, which measures all positions that are open (not filled) on the last business day of the month.

  • There were approximately 74,200 available job postings during the January 2022 monthly reporting period. There were 24,900 New (first-time) Job Postings. New (first-time) Job Postings in January 2022 represented 34 percent of all Available Job Postings and it was at 31 percent in December 2021.
  • 14 percent or 10,600 of all Available Job Postings during the January 2022 reporting period fell under the Management Occupations while 9,900 Available Job Postings fell under Computer and Mathematical Occupations, showing continued strong demand for experienced or senior talent and tech talent in our region. The top occupational group with the most "work-from-home" or "remote work" opportunities can be found in the Computer and Mathematical Occupations, followed by Management Occupations and, Business and Financial Operations Occupations.
  • There are currently about 3,400 postingsindicating vaccination requirements or mentions, an increase of 400 more postings when compared to the previous month of December 2021.
  • There were 5,400 postings that offered "signing bonuses" and this represented 7 percent of all postings, a similar share when compared to the previous month. The current top occupations that are offering signing bonuses are Registered Nurses, Software Developers and Software Quality Assurance Analysts and Testers, Heavy and Tractor-Trailer Truck Drivers, Sales Representatives, and Retail Sales Associates. In January 2021, only 3 percent of all job postings offered "signing bonuses".
  • 37 percent or 27,600 of Available Job Postings pay an annual median wage between $30,000 to $65,000. Of these, 59 percent or 16,200 will require a high school diploma as the entry-level education, and 15 percent or 4,100 will require a bachelor's degree.
  • There are about 765 internship positions posted. Companies such as Advanced Micro Devices, Cirrus Logic, Intel, Q2 Software, HDR Incorporated, and Walgreens have posted multiple internship positions.
  • According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the Austin MSA reported an unemployment rate of 2.9% or 38,600 unemployed in December 2021, the lowest unemployment rate in the state.
  • More jobs ahead. In January 2022, the Austin metro region saw a total of about 895 jobs announced through new relocation or expansion plans. Moov Technologies (Tempe, AZ), Portnox (Ra'anana, Isreal), Torc Robotics (Blacksburg, VA), and U.S. AutoForce (Appleton, WI) are the companies that have announced new location plans, creating about 202 new jobs in Austin. The expansion list representing 693 jobs, includes ATX Specialty Foods, Cumberland Additive, Energy Exploration Technologies, Facebook, FireCloud, Oni Studios, SparkCognition, and Tecovas.
