Austin Police Seek Blanket-Draped Aggravated Robbery Suspect

The aggravated robbery occurred at a 7-Eleven store located at 9061 Research Blvd. just after 4:45 a.m., police said in an advisory.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — The Austin Police Department is seeking help from the public in locating an aggravated robbery suspect dating to an incident last Sunday.

The aggravated robbery occurred at a 7-Eleven store located at 9061 Research Blvd. just after 4:45 a.m., police said in an advisory. Police said the suspect walked into the store before grabbing several items seemingly for purchase purposes. While at the counter, he patted his pockets as though searching for his wallet before producing a butcher-style knife and threatening the clerk while demanding money, according to the police account.

The clerk attempted to call 9-1-1 at which time the suspect lunged at the employee and threatened him again, police said. The suspect fled the store moments later and was last seen running northbound on Burnet Road and then east, police said.

The store employee was unharmed, according to police. The suspect is described as standing about five feet, seven inches in height of thin build with a weight of about 160 pounds. He is estimated to be between 35 and 40 years of age, and was last seen wearing a dark-color baseball cap with nautical star on the front, black zip-up Under Armour jacket with a red zipper, dark jeans tucked into pointed-toe cowboy boots, white COVID-19 mask with dark trim and UT Longhorn blanket draped over shoulders.

The Austin Police Department released surveillance camera images of the aggravated robbery suspect.

Detectives ask anyone with information about this case to call detectives at (512) 974-5092, Crime Stoppers at (512) 472-TIPS, submit a tip on the Crime Stoppers website or use the Crime Stoppers app. Police said all information is anonymous and may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000. Tips also can be submitted anonymously through the police department's mobile app, Austin PD, which can be downloaded for free on iPhone and Android.
