Austin Police Seek To Solve 2014 Murder Case

AUSTIN, TX — Austin police on Wednesday sought help from the public in helping to solve a murder case which is six years old.
The incident dates to Sept. 22, 2014, just before 10 p.m. along the 1100 block of East Oltorf Street where Joe "Mikey" Montemayor, 25, was found dead. In an advisory, police said officers responded to a 911 call at an apartment complex after a caller said a man was gasping for air and bleeding profusely before collapsing on the sidewalk.
Despite life-saving measures by officers, Austin-Travis County EMS and Austin Fire Department crews who arrived at the scene, police said, Montemayor died at the scene. The medical examiner subsequently conducted an autopsy before ruling the death a homicide, police said.

Law enforcement officials noted Montemayor did not reside at the complex where he was killed, but was there with friends who were visiting someone. At the time of the killing, Montemayor was wearing plaid shorts and white “Jordan-style” sneakers.
