Blanton Museum Art Talk Explores Medieval Monsters

The co-curators of the Medieval Monsters: Terrors, Aliens, Wonders exhibition discuss imagery and reflected attitudes in medieval art.

AUSTIN, TX — Austin's Blanton Museum of Art will host Art Talk: Medieval Monsters: Far and Near, a special afternoon discussion, and the ways in which medieval artists depicted as alien or monstrosities both foreigners and people who may not have conformed to restrictive social norms. Asa Mittman, Professor and Chair of Art and Art History at California State University, Chico and Sherry Lindquist, Associate Professor of Art History at Western Illinois University, co-curators of the Medieval Monsters: Terrors, Aliens, Wonders exhibition will delve into analysis of the attitudes reflected in medieval art and how these influenced the development of racial thinking.

Art Talk will be held Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 12 p.m. at the Blanton Museum of Art located at 200 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Austin, TX 78712. As a major community resource, The Blanton Museum of Art includes nearly 18,000 works in its collection, showcasing art from across the ages and offers a year-round schedule of traveling exhibitions.
