Central Texas Rescue Animals To Get Donated Food

Venerable company Tomlinson's Feed collected some 160K pounds of pet food for needy animals during its Pound4Pound holiday initiative.

AUSTIN, TX — Locally based Tomlinson's Feed is poised to distribute some 160,000 pounds of food to rescue animals as part of its recently concluded pet meals drive during the holidays.

The pet food company launched its Pound4Pound initiative throughout its 16 stores from Nov. 20-Dec. 24, donating equal amounts of food to each donated bag received among its six food suppliers — Lotus, Open Farm, Nulo, Fomm, Stella & Chewy's and Zignature.

The food collected during the drive now will be distributed throughout the year to more than 30 area rescues spanning an area from Georgetown to New Braunfels, officials detailed in a press advisory. In 2018, Tomlinson's, its customers and food partners collected 155,218 pounds of healthful pet food for animal rescues and pets and need — sustenance that is still being doled out, officials noted.

"Our goal is to keep rescue pets healthy happy and adoptable until their forever family finds them," Tomlinson's Feed owner Scott Click said in a prepared statement. "This holiday season, we've set a goal to raise over 160,000 pounds of pet food. We invite our customers to join us as we work to feed Austin's rescue pet community."

Among the beneficiaries of the holiday initiative are Central Texas SPCA, WilCo Regional Animal Shelter and Austin Dog Rescue. The donated food helps local rescues and shelters meet the nutritional needs of their pets while freeing up funds for medical expenses that would otherwise be spent on food, officials explained.

Brigid Cregar, an Austin Dog Rescue board member, expressed gratitude for the effort: "Austin Dog Rescue is grateful for the partnership with Tomlinson's and the Pound4Pound food drive," she said in a prepared statement. "Many of our shelter dogs arrive to us suffering from medical issues, and good nutrition is a key component to getting them well and adoptable. We always receive high quality food that bolsters our dogs' health. The P4P program allows us to focus uur financial resources elsewhere, and we look forward to each donation."
