AUSTIN, TX — Have you been thinking of becoming part of the chicken keeping community but have questions and don't know where to begin? The City of Austin invites you to register for a FREE class about how to go about joining the Chicken Keeping Community and helping the environment in the process.

Chicken keeping offers a great opportunity to keep food waste out of the landfill by having chickens recycle your food scraps instead. Those interested in learning about eco-friendly solutions for daily living may not know that chicken keeping and composting methods go hand-in-hand and offer a way of reducing landfill food waste and create healthy soil.

The Chicken Keeping class is offered as part of the City of Austin's Home Composting Rebate Program, and allows residents who pay the Clean Community Fee on their utility bill to qualify for a $75 rebate on a new chicken coop or home composting system. It's easy...attend the class and then apply at www.austintexas.gov/chickenkeeping.
