AUSTIN, TX —Social media has become an integral part of companies business strategies. From Facebook to Twitter and Instagram, companies use social media platforms to advance their brand image and promote their products and services, as well as a way to forge strong customer relations and improve their ROI.
It's estimated there are 3.2 billion social media users worldwide, or roughly 42% of the population. With a majority of the population relying on their mobile apps, consumers access social media as a matter of convenience. Perhaps one of the most fascinating statistics is the results by generation of active social media users. According to Emarketer, 90.4% of Millennials, 77.5% of Generation X, and 48.2% of Baby Boomers are active on social media, and average about 2:22 hours daily on social networking and messaging.
The data indicates social media is an important marketing strategy that can be tailored to appeal to a broad range of audiences. Becoming well-versed on best practices in social media lends itself to better positioning your company in the market. The City of Austin Office of Economic Development will host a class to help familiarize participants with social media, the do's and don't of social media, and best practices in social media.
