City Of Austin Public Works Releases 2021 Annual Report

Austin's Public Works' 2021 Annual Report answers these questions and sheds light on a busy year of building and maintaining the city's streets, sidewalks, bridges and managing capital projects. The report also details how Public Works stepped up to support the community's response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and how its crews helped clear critical roadways to help emergency service vehicles reach residents in need during Winter Storm Uri. Highlights of the report are focused on the City's Fiscal Year 2021.
Along with infrastructure improvements and supporting critical emergencies, the report also focuses on how the department continued to keep capital improvement projects on schedule and on budget, and how the department partners with neighborhood groups on localized projects.

Projects highlighted in the 2021 Annual Report include:
- Boggy Creek Trail - Austin's First Dual Track Urban Trail
- Austin Fire Station #51 / Austin-Travis County EMS Station #40
- Shared Use Path along Johnny Morris Dr. to Barbara Jordan Elementary
"Our Public Works team stepped up and helped build and maintain a better community in 2021," said Gina Fiandaca, Assistant City Manager over Mobility. "Their dedication to our residents and to improving our mobility infrastructure is evident in this report. I look forward to what's in store for 2022."
The online report is organized in three sections that show how Public Works helps create a community that is not only well-built and well-maintained, but provides well-being for all residents.
"Our people are always our greatest resource, and I'm proud of the progress our team has made this past year," said Public Works Director Richard Mendoza. "Our positive impact was felt in every corner of Austin this year, which is a testament to our commitment to serving our entire community."
Highlights of the 2021 Annual Report include:
- Repaired 1,546 potholes, 98% of which were addressed within 48 hours of reporting
- Maintained the City's 7,958 lane miles of streets, 76% of which are in satisfactory condition
- Constructed and repaired 38 miles of sidewalk
- Managed $364 million worth of spending for capital projects
- Secured 1,899 volunteer hours for Neighborhood Partnering Program projects
- Cleared 300 lane miles of ice and snow from roadways during February winter storm
