A street rehabilitation project will begin Monday, Nov. 8, on 8th Street from the I-35 Frontage Road to San Jacinto Boulevard. The project involves removal and replacement of seven inches of existing material with new hot mix asphaltic concrete material. The project is expected to take four weeks to complete, weather permitting.

The street will remain open to traffic with some lane closures in effect during construction. Traffic may be rerouted at times to accommodate progress. Access to driveways and parking lots will remain available.

The bus stop on the northeast corner of the intersection at 8th Street and Trinity Street may be relocated to a nearby stop on Trinity Street during construction. Any changes to services will be updated through Capital Metro.

Once the new asphalt material is installed, rolled and compacted, vehicles may drive slowly on the new pavement. Crews will install pavement markings and striping shortly after paving.

Construction crews will be onsite 5 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Drivers are asked to be cautious when passing through the work zone.

What to expect during street construction:

  • Cars should not park on the street; parked cars will be towed to a nearby street; contact Project Inspector Charles Hernandez at 210-246-3081
  • Follow all work zone traffic signs, cones, and flaggers to help direct you
  • Reduce speed, travel slowly and observe work crews during operations

Schedules are projected as accurately as possible but are subject to change due to the nature of construction and weather.

This project is made possible by the voter-approved 2018 Bond (Proposition G). To learn more about Austin's Road Resurfacing Programs, visit austintexas.gov/streetandbridge or call 3-1-1.
