The Contemporary Austin Hosts Virtual Family Event

Kinetic Swimmer and Second Saturdays offers families an opportunity to explore movement through art and yoga from the safety of home.

AUSTIN, TX — The Contemporary Austin invite families to a weekend virtual activity to celebrate summer. Create at Home: Kinetic Swimmers + Second Saturday (Virtual) is an exploration of movement and the body featuring a kinetic sculpture project and a kid-friendly yoga event.

The fun kicks off Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11 and offers the opportunity to participate in fun activities from the comfort and safety of home. KidDrs will learn how to engineer an aquatic work of art that actually swims and inspired by the watchful lifeguard sculpture at Laguna Gloria by duo Elmgreen & Dragset.

  • Buoyant container – empty can, plastic bottle, etc.
  • 4 sticks – twigs, popsicle sticks, etc.
  • Hot glue gun and glue
  • Rubber band
  • Rigid piece of plastic – old gift card, empty berry container, etc.
  • Scissors

The fun continues Saturday, July 11 with the first ever virtual Second Saturday event - live kid and family-friendly yoga with Bea Love Yoga. The virtual yoga session will be live-streamed direct from Laguna Gloria via Instagram beginning at 10 a.m. Click here to tune in!
