CR 176 Completion In Georgetown Touted In Williamson County
The $2.5 million safety improvement project in one of the county's fastest-growing areas is designed to improve commuter safety.
WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX — Officials on Friday announced the completion of CR 176 at Parkside Parkway, a $2.5 million safety improvement project designed to improve commuter safety in one of the county's fastest-growing areas.
The Georgetown project included realigning the intersection of CR 176 with RM 2243, officials explained in an emailed advisory. The design by WSB and Associates removed the safety hazard two existing 90-degree turns posed along the stretch of road, officials said. As a result, drivers can now count on an increased line-of-sight as they travel on CR 176 towards RM 2243.
“Not only was this vital for the safety of all drivers, but it was key to improve the accessibility and use of the road for emergency personnel responding to calls," Williamson County Precinct 3 Commissioner Valerie Covey said in a prepared statement. "As this side of our community grows, it is my priority to also complete road projects that will add to the quality of life of my constituents."

In just ten months during the project funded by voter-approved bond proceeds, the lanes on CR 176 were reconstructed and widened to 12- foot lanes with either an 8-foot shoulder or curb and gutter from RM 2243 to Parkside Parkway. The contractor for the project was Joe Bland Company.
The road will be beneficial for residents at recently completed and soon-to-be developed subdivisions north of Leander Road, officials added. County officials put the need into perspective: In the past five years 2,013 lots were developed and twice as many lots are planned to be constructed in the area.

The safety improvement plans also include adding a little over half a mile of sidewalk from CR 176 to RM 2243 for shared use between pedestrians and bicycle riders, according to the advisory. This portion of the project is expected to be completed by August, officials added.
