AUSTIN, TX — Austin and the surrounding areas are on high alert as critical fire weather conditions intensify, driven by powerful wind gusts and dangerously low humidity levels expected Friday and into the weekend.
The wildfire threat will peak Saturday, with strong winds continuing across northern counties, including areas north of Del Rio, Boerne, and Liberty Hill, according to the National Weather Service.
Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor objects and use caution when driving, especially in high-profile vehicles.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Friday directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to activate additional state resources ahead of anticipated extreme wildfire danger across the state.

Today: Partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 89. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
Tonight: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1am. Increasing clouds, with a low around 57. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable in the evening.
Saturday: Patchy blowing dust after 3pm. Sunny, with a high near 79. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 49. West northwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming light north northwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.
Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 78. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph in the morning.
Sunday Night: Clear, with a low around 48. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm.
