Rep. John Bucy And Community Leaders Coordinate Program

The food program is a community initiative helping district 136 disabled residents and seniors receive food assistance amid coronavirus.

AUSTIN, TX — In an effort to help House District 136 senior citizens over the age of 60 and disabled persons of any age who are homebound or otherwise have urgent food access needs as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Rep. John Bucy in partnership with Hill Country Community Ministries (HCCM) and local city and county leadership have announced an initiative to offer relief.

The food and wellness program will allow program participants to receive a free delivery of food each delivered to their door. Rep. Bucy calls on the volunteer community to ensure this initiative helps those most impacted by this current health crisis. "This initiative will not succeed without the support from the community, so I can't thank enough the hundred plus volunteers who have stepped up to help their neighbors in their time of need," Rep. Bucy said.

Outreach calls are being made to seniors with priority to those living alone. Volunteers of all ages work diligently to package food at Hill Country Community Ministries Food Party and make weekly deliveries to program participants. In order to mitigate the spread of the disease, proper health and safety protocols are being followed, and over 120 volunteers have signed up to offer their help and support since the launch of the initiative last week.
