Fatal Shooting Victim In South Austin Identified By Police

The July 11 incident at 2400 Wickersham Lane that left a 38-year-old man dead appears to have stemmed from an argument over a stolen car.

AUSTIN, TX — Police on Wednesday identified the man who died after a shooting in South Austin earlier this month.

The incident occurred on July 13 at 3 p.m. at 2400 Wickersham Lane, according to a police advisory. Multiple callers reported shots fired at the apartment complex, police said, alerting police to a man on the ground. The man was still breathing when police arrived, according to the advisory, despite the trauma throughout his body. The shooting victim was rushed to Dell Seton Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:51 p.m.

The shooting victim was identified as James Anthony Walker, 38.

After speaking with witnesses, police said multiple people have been identified as being connected to the fatal shooting. Police said the incident appears to have been the culmination of a dispute involving the victim's vehicle, which had been stolen three days earlier.
