The Austin Police Department (APD) has identified Oscar Carreon Valdez as the deceased in this crash.

On January 23, 2022, at approximately 1:54 a.m., APD officers responded to the 8000 blk of Research Blvd. SB for an auto and pedestrian crash. The pedestrian was outside of his vehicle inspecting it from a previous crash, when a gray Mercedes-Benz struck the pedestrian. The unknown driver left the scene after striking him. Carreon Valdez was pronounced deceased at the scene.
