Fix-It At Home! Series Offers Virtual Workshops Throughout August
Austin Resource Recovery hosts a range of online workshops for residents to learn repair and maintenance skills from home.
AUSTIN, TX —Austin Resource Recovery, providing a wide range of services designed to transform wast into resources while keeping the community clean, invite neighbors to a variety of informative and educational virtual events throughout the month of August. As more people spend time at home, there's never been a better opportunity to learn a new skill or take on a new Do-It-Yourself (DIY) project.
Austin Resource Recovery's Fix-It at Home! is an interactive, online workshop series aimed at teaching Austinites repair and maintenance skills from home. Local experts will lead the online instruction with a range of classes from learning sewing basics and 'patching' up clothes, to fixing recreational equipment and household appliances. - Fix-It at Home! Tour de Bike Repair Basics: Thursday, August 6 from 5 p.m. - 6 p.m. Are you looking to dust off the old bike in the garage? Is a minor malfunction keeping you sidelined from the trail? If this sounds like you, mark your calendar! Don’t miss out on the fun of biking because of easily fixable items. This workshop will give you the confidence to overcome minor hurdles and get back on the saddle! Plus, you’ll learn some basic bike terms in French!
- Fix-It at Home! Sewing: Basics by Hand: Monday, August 10 from 4 p.m. - 5 p.m. If you've never tried your hand at sewing, this workshop is for you. Our instructor will demonstrate 3 various basic hand stitches, each followed by practice time for the participants. These techniques will equip you with skills for your own mending endeavors, so you can repair that tear in your favorite shirt or replace a missing button. No machine required! Even if you only have a mending kit from a hotel, we invite you to learn and practice!
- Fix-It at Home! Bike Repair: My Gears are Stuck!: Wednesday, August 12 from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Have you ever experienced trouble with your bike gears? What happens when your gears get out of alignment? Join our instructor to learn how bike gears work and how to fix the shifting system if you find yourself in a bind.
- Fix-It at Home! Guitar Adjustments: Thursday, August 13 from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. Are you a musician? Found yourself playing more music from home, but not sure how to make adjustments to your guitar? Have you recently taken up the guitar? Whether a long-time guitarist or newcomer, join our instructor to learn how to adjust your guitar (electric or acoustic). Empower and equip yourself with the techniques to make sure you’re hitting all the right notes!
