Foundation Seeks Food Bags Donations For Homeless Community
The Other Ones Foundation asks the community for help preparing food bags that will then be distributed by volunteers to Austin's homeless.
AUSTIN, TX — The Other Ones Foundation (TOOF), providing extremely low barrier employment to people experiencing homelessness, paired with personalized case management that helps navigate services and acquire the resources necessary to find stable housing and income, has redirected their efforts toward execution of a humanitarian response to coronavirus, or COVID-19. With an increased need for additional resources and assistance for the Austin homeless population amid the pandemic, the foundation is requesting community assistance for food bags for homeless distribution.
Recently, the foundation rolled out a Mobile Hygiene Clinic bringing hygiene (showers and toilets) into the community, as well as other basic needs. The current public health crisis, however, has led to a food shortage for marginalized communities, and the foundation is focused on getting food to people during this challenging time. The mobile hygiene clinic is scheduled to visit six sites, each once a week. The Other Ones Foundation looks to distribute food bags containing one week worth of food supply to those who need it most.
Food bags should contain calorie-dense, non-perishable, single serving items. A food bag should not contain any homemade items, perishables, or liquids such as bottled water. Water is made available by the foundation. Food items should also not require cooking or refrigeration. Suggested items include peanut butter, jelly, nuts, tuna and chicken packets, spam, canned soups, single serve fruit or veggie cups, beef jerky, tortillas, granola bars, etc.
