Polar Bear Plunge 2019 To Take Place At Barton Springs Pool

Annual event celebrates the start of the New Year as attendees are invited to participate in the tradition of plunging into the cold water.

AUSTIN, TX -- Just in time to welcome the New Year, Austin Park & Rec has announced Barton Springs Pool will reopen at 5 AM on Tuesday, January 1 ahead of the annual Barton Springs Polar Bear Plunge 2019.

The community is invited to participate in this traditional event with the Save Our Springs (S.O.S) Alliance welcoming attendees with free coffee and donuts, maps, water education materials, and their commemorative Polar Bear t-shirts.

Polar Bear Swims are a tradition dating back over one hundred years and are celebrated by participants from all over the world. New Year's Day is the perfect day to commemorate the tradition, as participants have noted no challenge throughout the New Year compares to the shock of cold you feel upon entering the water.
