Homes Sales In Austin Metro Area Grew By 5.1 Percent

Affordability takes another hit, with median sales price for a home now $288,198 -- a 6.5 percent increase from the same period last year.

AUSTIN, TX -- Home sales in the Austin metro area encompassing five counties increased by 5.1 percent in April, according to the Austin Board of Realtors.

What's more, the median sales price of a home rose to $288,198, the group said.

The findings were found in the board of realtors monthly report. According to the data, some 2,600 homes sold last month compared with 2,475 in last year's comparable period. Median sales prices for homes also rose, to 6.5 percent from April 2015.

“Much of Central Texas’ home sales activity is now taking place outside of Austin’s city limits, with housing demand driving growth in surrounding counties, ” Aaron Farmer, president of the board, said in a prepared statement. “The City of Austin’s housing market is drastically different than surrounding areas. In Austin, home sales growth is suppressed, inventory is more constrained and home prices are much higher.”
