ICYMI: Air Traffic Control Tower At Austin Airport Reopens After Flooding

Here's a story Patch reported on earlier in the week.

The air traffic control tower at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport has reopened after extensive flooding forced workers to shut the tower down.

The Federal Aviation Administration announced on Wednesday that the 240-foot control tower had reopened. After storms brought more than 16 inches of rain to the Austin area last Friday, repairs had to be made to the tower.

The airport’s second runway reopened after the control tower resumed operating on Tuesday night. The radar room - located in the tower’s base - will remain out of service for several weeks due to extensive damage. Air traffic controllers in Houston have been handling airspace for the the Austin airport since the storm. The FAA stated that it’s completing tests of temporary equipment that should allow the transfer of radar services to controllers in San Antonio.
