ICYMI: Newlyweds Offer Reward For Missing Wedding Dress

In case you missed it, here's a top story from this past week in Downtown Austin.

Weddings can be stressful, but the aftermath of a successful ceremony is what’s increasing the blood pressure of a couple searching for a stolen wedding dress on the streets of downtown Austin.

Kelley De La Rosa, a newlywed who spent an entire year planning a dream wedding ceremony and honeymoon at the Westin Hotel in Austin, ended her festivities on an unpleasant note when she noticed her wedding dress was missing, according to KVUE.

“I believe it was placed on the side of the truck and we drove off not knowing and we think it fell between here [the hotel] and most likely I-35,” De La Rosa said to the station.

It took several hours for the couple to realize the dress was truly gone. After the groom returned to the Westin and walked surrounding downtown streets for hours looking for the dress, he enlisted the Westin staff in the search. About a dozen staffers walked through the hotel and the hotel grounds five times before reaching out to local businesses to check surveillance footage and issue calls on social media. The hotel said that this was the first time an incident of this nature has happened.

“We’ve had situations where maybe luggage is missing and different things are missing, but never have I seen something like this happen before,” Westin general manager Kristofer Carlson told KVUE.

According to the station, De La Rosa and her mother have spent the past few days searching through local pawn shops and checking Craigslist. Since the 27-year-old newlywed is traveling back to San Angelo on Wednesday, time is running out.

The family is offering a $200 reward for the return of the dress. If you have any information about the missing dress, call the Westin Hotel in Austin at 512-391-2233.
