Infant's Death In East Austin Deemed Suspicious: Sheriff
Deputies went to Roderick Drive amid reports of a child not breathing, later finding internal injuries inconsistent with natural causes.
TRAVIS COUNTY, TX — An infant's death in East Austin deemed suspicious by officials is under investigation by the Travis County Sheriff's office.
Deputies responded to the 5700 block of Roderick Drive just before 12:30 p.m. on Saturday amid reports that an infant had stopped breathing, officials said in an emailed advisory. Emergency workers immediately administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts that ultimately proved futile before the 2-month-old boy was pronounced dead just after 1:10 p.m., officials said.
Detectives and crime scene specialists then were dispatched to begin an investigation into the cause and manner of death, according to the advisory. An autopsy conducted by the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed internal injuries inconsistent with natural causes, officials added, and the Travis County Sheriff's Office is now treating the case as a homicide.
