Kids Invited To Submit Their Artwork On Emergency Preparedness

The Disaster Preparedness Art Contest for Elementary School Kids is a chance for 1st-5th graders to have their artwork in the HSEM calendar.

AUSTIN, TX—In honor of September and the National Preparedness Month, the City of Austin Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) invite students to create artwork to be featured in the Emergency Preparedness Calendar. The 2022 Emergency Preparedness Calendar Contest is open to 1st - 5th grade students whose school (or home) is located within the Austin city limits, without regard to the school district where you reside.

HSEM encourages everyone to prepare for emergencies, including kids, and the calendar contest is an opportunity for elementary school students to learn valuable lessons on emergency preparedness, while sharing creative artwork. HSEM will share information throughout September on their social media and other platforms on four key steps to preparedness including:

  1. Make a Plan
  2. Build a Kit
  3. Know your Neighbors
  4. Stay Informed

The deadline to submit work is 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 1, 2021. Submit artwork to the City of Austin Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management via email or mail to:
