Affordable Ways For Families To Celebrate The Season
Featured events offer great ways to keep kids busy this holiday break.

AUSTIN, TX -- With all the excitement leading up to Christmas, it's easy to forget about the lull that invariably happens while the kids are on break and not set to return to school until after the new year.
While parents look for creative ways to keep the kids busy, and as kids do their very best to find new ways to aggravate mom and dad, there's a host of fun activities waiting just outside your door. To help you get an idea what's happening in Austin this holiday break, we've compiled some entertaining low cost and FREE events for kids of all ages.
- Mario Kart 8 Wii U Tournament: Recommended for ages 6 and up, with adults welcomed to compete, the Windsor Park Branch Library will host a great Mario Kart 8 Wii event. Controllers provided, but guests may also bring their own. Details for sign up available on the link. FREE Event. Thursday, Dec. 27 beginning at 2 PM. (Sign up 30 minutes prior to start time required.)
- Mozart's Christmas Light Show: Featuring over 1 million LED lights, Mozart's Coffee Roasters annual Christmas light show is fun for the entire family. Come out and enjoy a delicious pastry or delightful hot beverage as you see the spectacular light show that has quickly become an Austin original event. FREE Event. Thursday, Dec. 27 beginning at 6 PM.
- The FOMO Factory: Located in the historic Red River District, Austin's FOMO Factory is an art space for everyone. A great sensory experience, FOMO Factory is the perfect activity to inspire your little one's creativity. Tickets $15 for ages 4- 12 and under, $23 for adults, FREE for ages 3 and under. Friday, Dec. 28 beginning at 2 PM.
- Grease the Sing-Along at the Blue Starlite: Close out 2018 on a musical high note with the entire family at the Blue Starlite Mini Urban Drive-In. A unique way to celebrate the season, the Grease Sing-Along will delight participants of all ages. Ticket prices vary. Friday, Dec. 28 beginning at 6:15 PM.
- Fortlandia: The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center hosts a one-of-a-kind experience for families with Portlandia -- unique forts designed by local designers, architects, artists and students from The University of Texas at Austin. FREE with Admission. Saturday, Dec. 29 beginning at 9 AM.
- Ice Skating On The Plaza: Create a new family tradition and enjoy a memorable experience with Ice Skating on the Plaza on the rooftop of Whole Foods flagship store in Downtown Austin. A popular event this holiday season ideal for all ages. $10 per person includes skate rental. Saturday, Dec. 29 beginning at 10 AM.
