AUSTIN, TX — An Austin family's dog believed to have been stolen and later found along the U.S.-Mexico border has been returned, according to reports.

The family of Koda, a four-year-old Akita, was contacted this week from a man in Del Rio — a town more than 200 miles southwest of Austin — alerting them he found a dog matching their pet's description, KXAN reported. The man told the family the canine was found outside his business is a state of hydration, according to the news station.

Since the reunion, the family has taken steps to better safeguard their home — and their beloved dog, which has since been micro-chipped.
