Matthew McConaughey, Al Roker Surprise Meals On Wheels Recipient
McConaughey, who this week teased a possible run for Texas governor, paid the visit to 93-year-old Jessie Norwood of Austin.

AUSTIN, TX — Thursday was alright, alright, alright for an East Austin woman awaiting her Meals On Wheels delivery.
Meals On Wheels Central Texas has an extraordinary volunteer in Matthew McConaughey. While the actor frequently volunteers for the organization, he has a special relationship with his favorite client, 93-year-old Jessie Norwood.
McConaughey and his family deliver Norwood's annual Thanksgiving meal, so when "The Today Show" star Al Roker — who's in Austin this week for a special show on how Texans are recovering after last month's winter storm — wanted to see McConaughey in action, the actor knew just where to take Roker.

Norwood is a fifth-generation Texan who hails from a family of sharecroppers, according to Mariette Hummel, vice president of communications with Meals On Wheels Central Texas. She raised four kids in the East Austin home where she's lived since 1949.
Norwood credits services such as Meals On Wheels for helping her stay in her home for more than six decades, Hummel told Patch.

When Roker, his film crew, and Meals On Wheels visited Norwood, she was thrilled to meet Roker, whose weather forecasts are a popular staple on the CBS morning show. She thought he planned to interview her about Meals On Wheels as well as her friendship with McConaughey.
What she didn't know was McConaughey had his own plan to surprise her as he hid in his car down the road.
McConaughey, who was born and raised in Texas, was in Austin ahead of the surprise visit. He sat down with Roker at the Texas state Capitol, where he talked about his upcoming virtual benefit to help the state's rebuilding efforts and whether he's actually planning to run for Texas governor in 2022.
"Look, it's a very honorable consideration," McConaughey told Roker. "So am I considering that? Sure, it's a great thing and an honorable thing to be able to consider.:
