National Clay Week Kicks Off With Family Clay Day
The Dougherty Arts Center celebrates National Clay Week with week-long events starting with hands-on fall-themed pottery projects.
AUSTIN, TX — Since 1978, the Dougherty Arts Center has been the Heart of the Arts in Austin as a community arts venue dedicated to promoting theater, music and dance performances, art exhibits, and as a studio arts program for youth and adults. From Monday, Oct. 7 through Saturday, Oct. 12 the Dougherty Arts Center will celebrate National Clay Week and will host a fun Family Clay Day on Oct. 7 from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.
All are invited to this free event where guests will make fall-themed pottery projects including pinch pot pumpkins, apple shaped bowls, and leaf prints. Guests will have the opportunity to learn techniques and glaze their artwork and leave it behind to be fired in the kilns creating beautiful and functional ceramic artwork.
There will be several other events held throughout the week, including the Austin Pottery Festivalto conclude the week-long celebration. The Festival will feature demonstrations by local ceramic artists throughout the day and participate in interactive clay projects. Guests will have the chance to take a tour of Dougherty’s clay studio and find out what community clay is all about.
