1. Kirk Koennecke named Eanes ISD superintendent (kvue.com) — Eanes ISD, based in Austin, has officially hired veteran educator Kirk Koennecke as its new superintendent, following a unanimous vote by the Board of Trustees. Koennecke, a former National Superintendent of the Year, brings a decade of superintendent experience and will replace interim leader Dr. Tom Trigg as he begins working with local teachers, staff, and families.
   

2. Austin's Oak Hill Parkway project to be finished by mid-2026, TxDOT says (fox7austin.com) — Drivers who battle the Oak Hill “Y” may see relief soon, with TxDOT now estimating the Oak Hill Parkway highway upgrade will wrap up by mid-2026. New nonstop US 290 mainlanes, flyovers, and Austin’s first single-point interchange aim to speed trips into Downtown, though officials say patience is still crucial during the final construction phase.
   

3. Austin honors Black-led groups after yearlong training to tackle homelessness crisis (cbsaustin.com) — Austin city leaders have honored nine Black-led grassroots groups that completed a yearlong training program to strengthen services for people experiencing homelessness. Funded by the City of Austin and Indeed, the initiative provided coaching, classes at Austin Community College, and wellness support, helping organizations expand housing, outreach, and support for vulnerable residents across Austin and nearby Pflugerville.
   

4. Austin police arrest fifth suspect in ambush killing (statesman.com) — Austin police have arrested a fifth suspect in a January ambush shooting that killed 19-year-old Victor Ekozeme and injured another teen near the Wildhorse Flats apartments by Manor. Investigators say a planned gun robbery led to multiple suspects firing into a fleeing car, and new evidence, including texts and interviews, tied 17-year-old Samuel Ray Johnson III to the coordinated attack.
   

5. Sistine Chapel Experience brings Michelangelo's masterpiece to Austin (cbsaustin.com) — A high-tech Sistine Chapel Experience opens today in the former Sears at Barton Creek Square Mall, letting Austinites see Michelangelo’s ceiling in stunning 4K projection. Built from millions of AI-stitched images captured inside the Vatican, the immersive exhibit offers residents an up-close alternative to traveling overseas and opens to the public at 11 a.m.
