The Bright Green Future Grants Program will support gardens, recycling, composting, and tree-planting efforts at campuses across the city, giving students practical ways to learn about conservation and healthy food.
   

2. Greater Austin YMCA plans major renovation to boost community services, add affordable housing (kvue.com) — A major overhaul is being proposed for the TownLake YMCA in downtown Austin, including expanded community space, new mental health and child care services, and a seven-story affordable housing building next door. City staff briefed council members this week on the mixed-use plan, which could add hundreds of condos, restaurant space and more parking, while neighbors and officials weigh in on design, access and community impact.

Suspect identified and arrest warrant issued in road rage incident near MoPac (statesman.com) — Austin police have identified a suspect and issued an arrest warrant after a road rage confrontation near the MoPac interchange, where a man allegedly smashed another driver’s window on Loop 360 before speeding off. The viral incident, initially probed as an assault case, unfolded in heavy midday traffic and ended in a high-speed chase through MoPac lanes.
   

4. Austin considering incentives to lure Southwest Airlines expansion (kvue.com) — Austin city leaders are weighing incentives for a major Southwest Airlines expansion that could add 2,000 high-paying jobs and significantly grow service at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. The proposed five-year deal would tie per-job payments to Austin residents, boost local tax revenue, and channel new money into child care assistance while supporting the airport’s multibillion-dollar expansion.
   

5. Austin drivers panned after car merges under truck on I-35 (mysanantonio.com) — A wild lane change on I-35 in Austin, caught on a local driver’s dashcam, shows a car squeezing under a concrete pillar hauled by a semi-truck to merge lanes. The viral TikTok clip has racked up millions of views and plenty of debate, with commenters split between calling it impressive and warning it could have caused a deadly pileup on the notoriously chaotic interstate.
