Polar Bear Plunges Happening Throughout Austin, Surrounding Areas

Annual events celebrate the start of the new year and let participants enjoy festivities centered around plunging into cold water.

AUSTIN, TX — The Polar Bear Plunge is an annual traditional, where groups of people plunge into frigid waters to kick off a New Year, or to raise money for charitable organizations. Braving the cold signals participants are ready for anything and everything the new year has to offer. This 2020, Austin and surrounding areas will host several Polar Plunge events for everyone to enjoy.

  • Polar Bear Plunge at El Salido Pool: The annual Polar Bear Plunge at El Salido Pool will be held Wednesday, Jan. 1 from 12 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. Admission to the pool is free during the event and includes hot chocolate with light snacks and pictures with a polar bear. 11500 El Salido Parkway, Austin, TX 78750
  • Austin Recovery Alumni Assoc. 2nd Annual Alumni Polar Bear Plunge: The New Year's Day 2nd Annual Austin Recovery Alumni Polar Bear Plunge at Barton Springs Pool promises to be an event to remember. Admission to the pool is free and Save Our Springs will be there with free coffee and donuts! Plan on arriving by 11:30 a.m. and invite friends and family to enjoy the comfortable 68 degree water.   • New Year's Day Polar Bear Splash: Celebrate New Year's Day with the Polar Bear Splash! There will be a booth at the south side entrance (back entrance) from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., where you'll find a cool new supply of shirts, but come early!   • Polar Bear Plunge & Fun Run in Wimberley at Blue Hole Regional Park: Come enjoy a day of celebration with Blue Hole Regional Park's third annual Polar Bear Plunge & Fun Run! The event kicks of with a 5K Fun Run at 10 a.m. and a 1K Fun Run at 11 a.m. Tickets are $20 per person and includes admission to the 5K or 1K Fun Run, a special edition Blue Hole Polar Bear Plunge T-shirt and a swag bag. If you're only taking the plunge, you don't need a ticket. If you would not like to participate in the Fun Run, there will be a scheduled jump into Cypress Creek at 1:30pm, or you can come and plunge anytime during the event!   • Brushy Creek MUD’s Polar Bear Plunge: Celebrate the start of a New Year with this fun family tradition taking place at 2 Brushy Creek pools. Creekside Pool will be a little chilly and Highland Horizon Pool is heated.
