Police ID Woman Killed In North Austin Car Crash

Shelby Bean, 28, was driving along North Lamar Boulevard when her car struck a utility pole, resulting in her death at an area hospital.

AUSTIN, TX — Police on Wednesday identified the driver who was killed after crashing into a utility pole in North Austin late last month.

The incident dates to Thursday, June 25, just before 7:15 p.m. along the 2600 block of North Lamar Boulevard, police wrote in an emailed advisory. Investigators said Shelby Bean, 28, was driving a white 2015 Subaru Forester southbound along the stretch of roadway when the car left the roadway for unknown reasons before slamming into a pole.

When police arrived at the scene, officials said, they saw the crash victim's boyfriend who had been in another vehicle, rendering aid. Austin-Travis County EMS medics transportedthe woman to Dell Seton Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead just after 7:45 p.m.

The incident marked Austin’s 40th fatal traffic crash of 2020, police said, resulting in 42 fatalities this year. At this time in 2019, police added, there were 38 traffic fatalities.
