Power Outage Affects 14K South Austin Households

A downed transmission breaker led to a large power outage in South Austin affecting some 14,000 customers early Monday, officials said.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — A downed transmission breaker led to a large power outage in South Austin affecting some 14,000 customers early Monday, utility officials said.

On Twitter, Austin Energy officials said a transmission breaker at a substation was being investigated. "Estimated restoration time will be updated soon," utility officials wrote. "Thank you for your patience as our crews work safely to restore power."

By early Monday, utility customers had their power back on: "All customers in south Austin have been restored as of 2:45 a.m.," officials wrote. "Our crews are still investigating to determine what caused the outage."
