Students Explore Fun, Exciting Aspects Of Engineering

The Edison Lecture Series invites middle and high school students to a day of hands-on programs highlighting advances in engineering.

AUSTIN, TX — Middle school and high school students are invited to the 2020 Edison Lecture Series on Friday, Jan. 31 at the University of Texas at Austin's Engineering Education and Research building. The unique event offers students a chance to explore the fun aspects of electrical and computer engineering, and learn the fundamentals of an engineering topic through a university-style lecture. Students then have the opportunity to see discussed concepts come to life via hands-on demos, and have a front row seat to the excitement.

The lecture topic for the 2020 Edison Lecture Series will be Embedded Medicine, and will explore recent advances in technology and how much has changed in the delivery of healthcare in hospitals, clinics, and homes. Learn how electrical and computer engineering factor in health care innovations such as:

  • Prosthetics that are controlled by the human brain
  • Smart pills capable of targeted drug delivery
  • Robotics in surgical suites
  • Health care using Smart Phones and the Internet of Things
