AUSTIN, TX — Austin-area weather will be as if ordered by the chamber of commerce on Thanksgiving Day, but rain is likely in the days following the holiday.

The National Weather Service predicts a high temperature of 78 degrees, with light and variable winds from the south blowing between five and ten miles per hour in the afternoon. After that, the chances of rain will mount starting Thursday night, with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms expected after 3 a.m.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely on Friday, when it will be cloudy with a high near 68 degrees. Northerly winds between five and 10 miles per hour are expected to increase as gusts blowing up to 20 miles per hour, forecasters predict. The chance of precipitation is 70 percent by Friday, officials said, with new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Forecasters say showers and thunderstorms are likely on Friday night. It's expected to be cloudy, with a low around 54. The chance of precipitation will remain at 70 percent.

The chance of rain grows to 80 percent on Saturday, according to the forecast, with showers and thunderstorms expected. The high is expected to barely reach 59 degrees, with north-northeast winds starting at around 10 miles per hour expected to strengthen to 20 miles per hour.

The chance of rain begins to diminish by Saturday night, with a 40 percent likelihood of showers and thunderstorms before midnight. It will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 42 degrees with a north-northwest wind of around 10 mph.

Sunday will bring a high near 60 degrees, according to the forecast. Wind gusts starting at 10-15 miles per hour are expected to strengthen to 25 miles per hour, according to the forecast. Sunday night will be mostly clear, with a low of around 39 degrees.

Sunny skies return by Sunday, and are expected to remain at least until Wednesday. Temperatures will start dipping into the 30s by next week in signifying autumn. The low on Monday night will approach freezing level at 33 degrees. It will be warmer on Tuesday night with a low of 39 degrees expected.
