AUSTIN, TX — A teen has been charged in the South Austin shooting death of a man in mid-July, police said Monday.
The incident dates to July 13 around 3 p.m., when police said they received multiple calls of shots fired at an apartment complex on 2400 Wickersham Lane. Arriving officers found the shooting victim still breathing with obvious trauma throughout his body, police said. The man was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead just before 4 a.m., according to a police advisory.
The dead man was identified as James Anthony Walker, 38. In a Monday news release, police said a murder warrant was issued last Thursday for Matthew Gonzalez, who subsequently was arrested the next day by members of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force. Gonzalez is being held at the Travis County Correctional Complex on a $1 million bond, according to police.
