Texas Crosses 4K Mark In Coronavirus Deaths
Health officials on Monday reported 62 new deaths from the respiratory illness, bringing the historical count to 332,434.
AUSTIN, TX — Texas reached another grim milestone on Monday, surpassing the 4,000 mark in fatalities blamed on the coronavirus after 62 new deaths were reported. In addition, 7,404 new cases of the respiratory illness were reported, bringing the historical count to 332,434.
The historical death count now stands at 4,02o. The data is found on a statistical dashboard maintained by Texas Department of State Health Services officials.
The 4,000 mark in deaths reached Monday comes a mere 10 days after the state surpassed 3,000 deaths on July 10. The 2,000 mark was reached on June 16. While high, the 60-plus new deaths are less than the 174 reported on Friday that stands as the highest single-day increase to date.

According to the data, there are 150,543 active cases of the respiratory illness.

Health officials also reported an estimated 177,871 recoveries. However, health officials of late have been offering disclaimers about the recovery numbers. "This number is an estimate based on several assumptions related to hospitalization rates and recovery times, which were informed by data available to date," health officials wrote on the dashboard. "These assumptions are subject to change as we learn more about COVID-19. The estimated number does not include data from any cases reported prior to 3/24/2020."
According to the dashboard, the counties with the highest concentration of illness are:
- Harris: 55,769 cases.
- Dallas: 41,266 cases.
- Bexar: 26,491 cases.
- Tarrant: 21,617 cases.
- Travis: 17,646 cases.
- Hidalgo: 12,263 cases.
- El Paso: 11,769 cases.
- Nueces: 8,579 cases.
- Galveston: 7,125 cases.
- Fort Bend: 5,979 cases.
- Cameron: 5,891 cases.
- Collin: 5,374 cases.
- Denton: 4,968 cases.
- Williamson County: 4,792 cases.
