Texas Hits Record High 19,195 New Coronavirus Cases
A new single-day high is reached just days before Christmas with 294 new deaths reported over the course of the past 24 hours.
AUSTIN, TX — Texas reached a new record for new cases of the coronavirus, with 19,195 newly emerged diagnoses on Wednesday. The state also reported 294 new deaths over the course of the past 24 hours.
The new single-day high shatters a previous record 16,864 new cases that was set on Thursday. Also reported on a statistical dashboard maintained by the Texas Department of State Health Servicesare 10,574 hospitalizations for the respiratory illness virus — the most since a record 10,893 hospitalizations set on July 22.
The state also reported another 3,405 probably cases of coronavirus.

According to the dashboard, the top 20 counties with the greatest number of confirmed cumulative coronavirus cases are:
- Harris County: 222,931
- Dallas County: 158,354.
- Tarrant County: 117,237.
- El Paso County: 96,078.
- Bexar County: 86,609.
- Travis County: 46,701.
- Lubbock County: 39,850.
- Collin County: 39,079.
- Hidalgo County: 34,510.
- Fort Bend County: 29,897.
- Denton County: 29,373.
- Cameron County: 28,613.
- Webb County: 24,915.
- Montgomery County: 20,767.
- Nueces County: 20,283.
- Williamson County: 18,568.
- Galveston County: 18,214.
- Brazoria County: 17,982.
- McLennan County: 17,649.
- Potter County: 14,808.
