Texas Is Nation's Most Haunted State: Report

AUSTIN, TX — Ahead of Halloween, this is something worth noting: According to a new study, Texas is the nation's most haunted state in terms of reported ghost sightings

A new report by slotsource.com reveals haunted hotspots across the U.S., along with the odds of seeing a ghost by state. Given that reckoning, the Lone Star State emerges as the most haunted state, with 6,854 ghost sightings reported and documented since 2005, researchers found.

Stated another way, there are 456 ghostly sightings per year in Texas. Those fascinated by the paranormal in Austin are in something of a mother lode for such sightings, with more than 115 recorded as logged by researchers.

As part of the report, slotsource.com spoke to well-known paranormal existence experts, Psychic Medium Sisters; and celebrity psychic to the stars, Chris Riley. Asked how someone can know if a ghost is near, the former said hauntingly: "You'll see unexplained shadows or movements in the side-vision of your eyes, or soft whispers of a conversation near you and no one is there."

If that doesn't haunt your dreams, Psychic Medium Sisters provided other tell-tale signs of a ghostly presence: “You may sense cold spots, creepy feelings or you may feel like being you’re being watched."

And if that's not enough to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, here's another tip from Psychic Medium Sisters: “Often people report to being touched on the shoulder, a spider-fingers feeling on the head, or you might just simply see a ghost.”

Okay, spiders don't have fingers. But you get the idea.

For those intent on embarking on a full-fledged paranormal investigation, Riley suggests being around people who are experienced within the paranormal field. "It helps to be around people who are knowledgeable in the field so that you get the best out of an investigation and to keep you safe," Riley added.

Psychic Vincent Sisters focused on the utilitarian to document the abstract: “Take a camera and voice recorder to record any voices or activity," they advised. "Have fun and listen to your intuition”

• California, with 6,444 sightings since 2005.
• Ohio, 2,555 sightings.
• Michigan, 2,426 sightings.
• Illinois, 2,151 sightings.
• Indiana, 1,892 sightings.
• Pennsylvania, 1,743 sightings.
• Oklahoma, 1,715 sightings.
• New York, 1,670 sightings.
• Virginia, 1,655 sightings.
