Researchers at the personal finance website WalletHub compared the 50 states across 50 key indicators in assembling their Best & Worst States to Raise a Family report. The upshot: Texas ranked 33rd among the best states to lay down family roots, sandwiched between Indiana and Michigan.

• 37th – Child-Care Costs (Adjusted for Median Family Income)
• 23rd – Infant-Mortality Rate
• 24th – Median Family Salary (Adjusted for Cost of Living)
• 34th – Violent-Crime Rate
• 42nd – percentage of Families in Poverty
• 27th – Housing Affordability
• 26th – Unemployment Rate
• 25th – Separation & Divorce Rate
