According to a New York Times report, Armstrong was dating Colin Strickland, another star gravel cyclist. Wilson was also reportedly dating Strickland, the Times reported, citing police.

On the night she was killed, Wilson and Strickland reportedly visited the Deep Eddy pool in Austin, according to a police affidavit posted by The Austin American-Statesman. According to the affidavit, Strickland told police he began a romantic relationship with Wilson during a brief break in his relationship with Armstrong.

A tipster told police that when Armstrong learned about the relationship between Strickland and Wilson, she "became furious and was shaking in anger," according to the American-Statesman. The tipster also told police that Armstrong said she wanted to kill Wilson.

Strickland released a statement to the American-Statesman on Friday.

"There is no way to adequately express the regret and torture I feel about my proximity to this horrible crime," Strickland said in the statement. "I am sorry and I simply cannot make sense of this unfathomable tragedy."

In the statement, Strickland acknowledged a brief romantic relationship between him and Wilson that took place in October 2021. At the time of her death, Strickland said, the relationship between them was "platonic and professional."

In a statement to NBC News, Wilson's family called her death "senseless."

"We are absolutely devastated by the loss of our beautiful daughter and sister, Anna Moriah Wilson," her family said. "There are no words that can express the pain and suffering we are experiencing due to this senseless, tragic loss."
